A Day in the Life
The Process Development Technician V is primarily responsible for assisting in setting up and maintaining manufacturing lines and performing testing to support process development. Works with Engineers to develop new processes as well as update existing ones. Works with operators to improve processes and to ensure processes are performed correctly.
May occasionally design fixtures and equipment to support the manufacturing and testing of catheter-based medical device products.
Work schedule: Typical day shift, M-F.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Performs a variety of duties in the mechanical, electronic, and electro-mechanical areas.
- Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, diagnoses, and maintains equipment, components, devices, or systems.
- Works from schematics, engineering drawings and written or verbal instructions.
- Operates related equipment; conducts tests and reports data in prescribed format.
- Performs calibration and alignment checks; makes adjustments, modifications, and replacements as directed
- Providing design support to engineers throughout the process of product development from concept development to manufacturing transfer
- Complete IQ/OQ for test equipment installations.
- Set-up and test execution of complete units in support of characterization and design verification activities
- Conducts experiments using judgment in developing methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria
- Provide feedback on the clarity, purpose and scope of technical deliverables and objectives and suggests improvements
- Communicating progress toward project objectives to engineers, project team members, and project manager
- Develop tooling/fixturing, utilizing rough sketches and specifications self-developed or received from design engineers.
- Provide direction and training to interns and lower-level technicians.
- Maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to peripheral vascular products and associated accessories.
- Perform required training and certifications to demonstrate compliance with applicable divisional and corporate policies in accordance with individual training matrix.
Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; may require vocational or technical education and advanced certification in addition to prior work experience.
Nice to Have
- Experience with one or more of the following; spot welding, heat-cure 2-part epoxy bonding, UV-cure cyanoacrylate bonding, electrical test, EEPROM programming, pouch sealing, conformal PCB dip coating, soldering, and parylene coating
- Experience using Excel and Minitab for data analysis
- Experience developing and validating medical device manufacturing processes (IQ, OQ, PQ, and PPQ)
- History of successfully transferring projects to manufacturing
- Process error proofing (poka-yoke) experience
- Fixture design and development
- Experience meeting time-bound objectives
- Leadership and self-starter qualities
- Strong organization skills with ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; effective interpersonal and influence skills within the team and to management
- Ability to work with vendors and outside manufacturing resources to ensure robust and producible designs
- Work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision of engineers
- Experience in giving direction to other technicians
- Ability to apply judgment in determining the appropriate work methods needed to achieve results
- Experience with medical products
- Experience in a regulated industry
- Familiarity with EHS requirements
