The CARDIAC AND VASCULAR GROUP brings all our cardiac and vascular businesses together into one cross-functional, collaborative operating unit to employ the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services, and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe. 


CORONARY AND STRUCTURAL HEART provides interventional devices to treat coronary arteries that are blocked by atherosclerotic plaque and devices and therapies to treat structural defects of the heart.


A Day in the Life

 

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Direct and coordinate the laboratory support staff and maintain an adequate inventory of research lab glassware, materials and laboratory equipment.
  • Coordinate daily consumable supply stocking and ordering.
  • Ensure effective operation of all laboratory equipment and serve as point of contact for instrument repairs, calibration and preventative maintenance.
  • Be responsible for move/add/change request forms.
  • May organize and participate in vendor negotiations, product and software evaluations, tutorials, and facility modifications.
  • May submit purchase orders and request capital approval for equipment.
  • Interface with Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) and act as a liaison between departments, vendors and the Engineering / Scientific staff to complete lab modifications and ensure safety compliance.
  • Perform safety audits with EH&S and participate in Environmental Site Assessments (ESA's).
  • Work with EH&S to assess and approve new chemicals and materials; and ensure that SDS documents are up to date for new and existing chemicals.
  • Provide technical input to purchasing and other functional areas.
  • Be responsible for development of tracking procedures, establishment and maintenance of service contracts and warranties with vendors.
  • May trouble shoot and repair general instrumentation.
  • Train new Engineering & Scientific staff in the general use and function of designated instrumentation and create and refine user protocols for general use.
  • Work with customers to ensure the right technical staff is assigned to teams to meet operational objectives and support cross-training as needed to meet those objectives.
  • Approve PTO and hours worked via Kronos system.  Manage day-to-day elements of the budget (e.g. overtime for staff).
  • Manage shared service personnel.  Track costs and time to interface with Finance to cross-charge customers and business units for services provided.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
  • Understands basic management approaches such as work scheduling, prioritizing, coaching and process execution. 
  • Requires broad job knowledge of technical or operational practices within assigned discipline. 


Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in a STEM related discipline.
  • Willingness to collaborate across Medtronic businesses to share and leverage capabilities, competencies and best practices
  • Ability to form and foster strong working relationships with employees, understanding their strengths and supporting their development plans
  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate working across multiple functions and businesses while supporting multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to manage complex and sometimes competing demands for employee and equipment time.
  • Lean Manufacturing, DMAIC Methodology and/or Six Sigma Certification.
