Due to the continued evolution of our business, the role of Senior Communications Director has been newly created in our APAC Communications team. Based in Sydney, you will be providing leadership to a broad team across ANZ, South East Asia and India. You will be leveraging your experience in media relations, public affairs and senior stakeholder management to build, drive and deliver communication strategies and corporate marketing programs across the APAC region. As a member of both the ANZ Executive Leadership team and APAC Communications Leadership team, this is pivotal role where you will have direct contribution to, and impact on the achievement of our business goals in key APAC markets.
 
A Day in the Life
 
With dual reporting to the APAC VP for Communications and the Managing Director for ANZ, this opportunity has clearly defined responsibilities as follows.
 
Australia & New Zealand responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the development, customisation and execution of comprehensive communications strategies and programs that appropriately position Medtronic as a world medical technology leader, a trusted local partner as well as an employer of choice in ANZ.
  • Working with the ANZ Managing Director in communicating and aligning important, country -specific messages, driving positive changes and strategic initiatives.
  • Working with the ANZ leadership team and regional communication teams on major media issues and crisis communications. Developing crisis communication plans and aligning management around objectives whilst tactically deploying efforts to protect the Medtronic reputation.
  • Partnering with local business leaders to develop and execute strategies to engage with key stakeholders and influencers, responding to government/regulatory policy changes, and/or creating reputational campaigns that meet business objectives. 
  • Leading the creation and execution of digital and social media strategies as a mechanism to tell the Medtronic story to deliver compelling content to the marketplace. 
  • Working closely with the ANZ leadership team to understand major employee engagement gaps and creating an integrated communication plan to support the elevation of the overall engagement within the organisation.
  • Organising major internal events, including but not limited to holiday programs, town-hall meetings, and annual kick-off meetings.
  • Supporting business units in key communication strategies and program execution with the aim to promote therapy, enhance disease awareness education and engage with key customers. 
APAC responsibilities: 
  • Overseeing the communication teams in emerging markets, providing guidance on communication strategies and best practices.
  • Managing APAC business partners to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting regional business groups on business initiatives, key product launches or product issues.
  • Coordinating or leading regional and global programs that require participation from multiple countries and business units with an aim to streamline the processes, creating synergy and driving efficiency.

To be considered, you are able to demonstrate:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Communication, Journalism, Social Science, Marketing or Business.
  • 15+ years of experience in corporate communications and/or public affairs. Healthcare industry experience in a pharmaceutical or medical device company or agency is highly desirable, but not necessary.
  • Experience in working across large cross functional teams within a complex, matrix environment.
  • Demonstrated ability in developing and leading local and regional teams across the APAC region.
  • Strong commercial nous and the ability to deliver a communications strategy that addresses business imperatives.
  • Strong understanding of digital and social media strategies and a demonstrated ability to craft and implement broad digital/social campaigns with success.
  • Event management capabilities, including internal employee communication campaigns and company-wide key events requiring strong strategic content support and cross-functional collaboration.
  • High level of adaptability and demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and agile landscape.
  • High level of integrity, initiative and values; a strong alignment to the Medtronic Mission.
