Sr. Director, Global Application Services (Strategy, Architecture & Transformation )

Summary:
This role will provide the leadership, vision, and direction for Global Application Services (GAS) for Strategy, Architecture and Transformation. This role will be responsible for global architecture, strategy and systems planning, user experience, governance, agile transformation, application rationalization, and cloud migration. This position is a member of the Global IT Extended Leadership Team and reports to the Vice President of Global Application Services.
Responsibilities:
- Manages an organization of global leaders and professionals to ensure achievement of strategic and operational objectives by creating:
- A high-performance work environment with career path guidance, employee development plans, recognition programs and talent management planning
- An environment of teamwork and partnering within the area and across the wider organization
- Actively drives new and smarter ways of doing work, and encourages an environment of knowledge transfer and continuous learning
- Leads, mentors and grows members of the team
- As a member of the leadership team for Global Application Services, contribute to the overall strategies of the Global IT organization and participate in setting the vision and goals of the broader organization. Leader of this organization drives strategic technology roadmaps in support of current and future business capabilities.
- Evaluate, negotiate, develop and manage preferred vendor relationships to provide Medtronic with the highest value, lowest overall cost with highest quality service globally.
- Lead domestic and international vendor bidding and formal Request for Proposal processes. Monitor contract compliance on an ongoing basis. Evaluate pricing and quality of services against Medtronic’s requirements.
This role will be responsible for the oversight, leadership, and delivery of the following key areas and activities:
Global Architecture

- Defines and maintains the requirements, principles and models that guide technology decisions
- Develops and maintains strategies, standards, frameworks and roadmaps for GAS applications while guaranteeing an enterprise-wide approach
- Creates a platform strategy and align that strategy with the rationalization of the entire GAS application portfolio

- Partners with IT Business Relationship Managers (BRMs) to deliver high-quality IT service and solution design to the business
- Drives digital innovation by leveraging innovative new technologies and approaches to renovate, extend, and transform the existing core technology base
- Relentlessly simplifies and proactively identifies unnecessary complexity and efficiency gaps within the application portfolio
- Creates and delivers cross project and platform architectural governance
- Understands technology trends and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business and operating models
- Collaborates with IT, industry experts, consultants, strategic partners, and others to deliver the highest value innovative technology solutions to the business
Strategy and Systems Planning

- Leads the identification and evaluation of new technologies, delivery methods and application development methodologies and supporting toolsets
- Collaborates closely with stakeholders on the IT strategy and vision
- Creates the GAS functional strategy in support of the greater IT Strategy
- Develops, maintains and oversees Target Application Roadmaps
- Guides and provides input to the annual Strategic Plan and AOP processes
User Experience (UX)

- Champions user-centered design principles to create experiences that meet user needs and address business goals
- Establishes a product and application UX vision and strategy
- Communicates, defends, and builds consensus around UX architecture and interaction design direction
- Designs, documents and evangelizes a cohesive set of design principles, patterns, and guidelines that can be utilized throughout GAS to ensure consistency of experience
- Works with the site IT BRMs and the IT team to deliver a high-quality IT service and solution design to the business
- Prioritizes IT investments by evaluating where systems do not support a positive customer experience
- Develops personas to facilitate feature design process
Governance

- Establishes, updates and maintains processes that ensure the effective and efficient use of IT in enabling GAS to achieve its goals
- Guides technology investment decisions based on analysis and evaluation to drive targeted business outcomes
- Create and oversee an application governance program which categorizes decision rights and accountability to make sure decisions are made and actions are followed through
Agile Transformation

- Leads agile transformation and new way of working
- Develops an agile culture

- Cultivates product ownership and redefines coordination across delivery teams
- Adopts a toolchain and builds/buys automation capabilities
- Implements and scales DevOps capabilities and associated roadmaps with key stakeholders and at the same time creates a DevOps culture
- Adapts corporate processes to support the new agile framework
Application Portfolio Rationalization & Portfolio Strategy

- Leads the analysis of the current technology environment to detect critical deficiencies, legacy and technical debt, and recommends solutions for improvement
- Defines high-level migration plans that are informed by the platform strategy to address the gaps between the future and current state, in sync with the IT budgeting
- Manage technical debt proactively by implementing a “cradle-to-grave” application, platform & product life cycle planning with forecasting events during the life cycle to prevent surprise investments
Cloud Migration

- Assess application inventory of more than 2000 applications and map migration complexities and costs
- Plan a roadmap to accomplish aggressive goals for migration including a sequence of applications for cloud migration
- Execute timely migration through partnership with I&O and other key areas with IT
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with 10+ years of managerial experience , or Advanced Degree with a minimum 13 years prior relevant experience, minimum of 10 years of managerial experience

- Experience with managing business relationships
- Knowledge of enterprise systems
- Global large team leadership experience
- Experience with Agile Safe Methodology
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Strong communication skills, including communication with employees, clients, upper management and vendors
