The Principal Editorial Content Management Specialist will develop branded editorial content that delivers on marketing strategies and drives outstanding results for the Medtronic Medical Surgical portfolio. The ideal candidate will champion our editorial voice while collaborating closely with multiple departments to tell compelling stories through an omnichannel strategy. This position will ideally be based in Boulder, CO or New Haven, CT or can be worked remotely.
A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Shape messaging and provide editorial counsel for major business intiatives, including product launches, omni-channels campaigns, and other key initiatives
- Adeptly learn a complex industry and customer base to produce editorial content that meets strategic intent at each stage of the buying cycle:
- Represent the voice of customer for content creation across relevant stages and platforms
- Content optimization: keywords, CTAs, URLs, #hashtags, headings, etc.
- Ongoing message refinement
- Create high-quality, time-sensitive editorial content across print, digital, and social media using innovative and analytical thinking
- Demonstrate top-notch skills as a reporter, writer, editor, and creative thinker
- Engage with Medtronic customers, partners, employees, thought leaders, and other stakeholders as appropriate to define content needs and produce relevant, targeted content
- Monitor trending industry standards, news stories and key audience discussions, events, memes and other popular content to find opportunities to position Medtronic favorably and in support of business objectives
- Collaborate with Creative Media & Design team to produce effective content quickly
- Work with Project Management team and software platforms to manage project workflow and activities
- Actively partner with analytics to understand performance against KPIs and offer counsel on refinements and optimization
- Self-starter; able to manage a busy schedule and requests from many sources
- Exemplify a culture of editorial excellence, accountability, collaboration, and problem-solving

- Bachelors degree required
- Minimum of 7 years of marketing communications, communications or journalism experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of marketing communications experience
Nice to Have
- Experience working with complex subjects in a matrixed environment
- Top-notch writing skills across a wide range of forms — from complex white papers to compelling ads, Tweets, and display copy
- Great storytelling skills
- Experience navigating end-to-end editorial process (reporting, writing, editing, proofreading, fact-checking, and production)
- Experience creating content from the ground up
- Expertise in which content formats and channels best reach different audiences
- Familiarity and comfort adhering strictly to house style guide and brand guidelines
- Business acumen: agility navigating complex business priorities
- Ability to quickly learn new concepts and adapt to a changing environment
- Excellent communication, listening, and collaboration skills
