Senior Manager, External Corporate Communications
We are looking for an experienced communications professional to provide leadership and direction for the Corporate Issues and Crisis Communication team. This is a high-level individual contributor role who will be a member of the Corporate PR team, reporting to the Director of Global Issues and Crisis Communications, with responsibility for supporting media relations and issues management programs around key issues and company positions. In this role, you will work closely with global communications colleagues and functional partners to execute proactive and reactive strategic communications plans representing corporate and pan-business issues and announcements.

A Day in the Life
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Advance the company narrative to media and other external audiences, to include anticipation of issues and the strategic creation and execution of issues and crisis communications plans
- Partner across our corporate communication team to lead the development and execution of the Medtronic issues management process, including preparedness and management to protect Medtronic’s internal and external reputation
- Proactively scan the external and internal landscape to identify potential issues that could impact the company and address in partnership with functional and business communications colleagues
- Partner with Communications Business Partners to create strategic recommendations and plans to protect and advance the goals of the business
- Conduct outreach to key media stakeholders, including journalists and relevant influencers
- Manage incoming media requests under deadline
- Work with agencies and vendors that are engaged in communications programs and issues and crisis management activities
- Partner with cross-functional teams to gather feedback, review and approval of communications materials
- Apply innovative thinking to solve complex problems and complete assignments that are often ambiguous
- Develop, implement and maintain appropriate metrics to evaluate impact and effectiveness of external communications
- Bachelor’s degree and 7+ years of experience in a professional public relations or communications role, or 5+ years with an advanced degree

- Experience working in regulated industries (preferably in healthcare)
- Experience in at least one of the following areas: legal/regulatory communications; technology and data privacy communications; reputation management; crisis communications
- Solid track record and demonstrated results with public/media relations campaigns
- Significant interpersonal and stakeholder alignment capability
- Healthcare industry experience
- Knowledge of social and digital media engagement
