This individual will be part of a blended corporate Global Trade Center of Expertise (COE) in the Enterprise Legal Regulatory team composed of lawyers and compliance professionals that combines deep substantive expertise in global trade areas core to Medtronic’s business with in-house understanding of Medtronic’s businesses. 

This individual will be part of the import team for the COE. This individual will provide compliance support to help mitigate risks and maintain compliance and provide support to Global Trade Operations and other relevant Medtronic functions.  Specific global trade areas of compliance consult will include but are not limited to import classification, valuation, country of origin, preferential trade programs, assists and reconciliation, free trade agreements. Other stretch assignments and duties may be assigned.

This position reports to the Senior Import Legal and Compliance Manager, Enterprise Legal Regulatory.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Supports import legal and compliance team to build and enhance import compliance program
  • Develops, implements, administers and certifies export compliance policies, procedures, and practices
  • Ensures alignment with legal and ethical standards of the organization
  • Provides import compliance advice, investigates complaints and verifies deficiencies are corrected
  • Develops and prioritizes employee communication and training programs that focus on the elements of a companywide compliance program; executes in coordination with Office of Ethics and Compliance
  • Analyzes and develops strategic priorities on metrics and audits of import compliance program; executes in coordination with Office of Ethics and Compliance
  • Maintains current knowledge of import laws, regulations, and industry guidance that impact the company's compliance program
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors’ degree and 2+ years of import experience, or, an advanced degree
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor's degree specializing in Business, International Business, Economics, International Relations, Political Science preferred but not required. 
  • Understanding of import processes and procedures
  • Problem Solving, innovation, critical thinking skills
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Power Point and Access
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical, administrative and organizational skills
  • Foreign language skills such as Mandarin are a plus
  • Self-motivated and possess ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Excellent communication skills, grammar, writing, and people skills
  • Understanding of the legal regulatory environment and business risks for a Life Science Company
  • Experience in the healthcare/medical device industry
  • Experience with change management and/or process efficiency efforts (i.e. Lean Sigma)
