Reporting to the Senior Program Manager, Global Data and Privacy Program Operations, the Privacy Incident Specialist is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and responding to privacy related incidents involving the potential unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss of personal and/or personal sensitive data involving employees, patients, customers, and business associates.  This position is responsible for timely response to, recording of, and under direction from the Data and Privacy Program SOPs, guidelines, and direct guidance, on facilitating reporting on privacy incidents.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Responds to and facilitates/coordinates privacy related incidents process in an accurate, timely, and professional manner.
  • Actively participate in and coordinates as appropriate cross-functional global incident response teams to identify and remediate issues.
  • Generates and maintains complete and accurate documentation to support formal decisions.
  • Performs stringent quality control checks on deliverables and is able to produce consistent results without defects.
  • Maintains ongoing contact and communication with legal and privacy team members throughout the entire incident lifecycle.
  • Leads meetings with attorneys and internal customers.
  • Maintains basic understanding with industry standard data privacy regulations.
  • Leads short-term, and longer term as needed, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.  Collaborates with other team members to develop and improve processes.
  • Frequently interacts with internal customers at all organizational levels.
  • Understands and strictly maintains the confidentiality of all matters involved.
  • Supports a flexible schedule to cover global incidents.
  • Must be of good moral character.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
  • 4+ years of privacy or investigative experience with a bachelor’s degree, or, an advanced degree with 2+ years of experience
Nice to Have
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a faced paced demanding environment.
  • Strong knowledge of data types and metadata.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of command line tools.
  • General working knowledge of global privacy laws and how they apply to Medtronic’s business.  
  • Ability to drive process based on Medtronic data privacy and security policies and standards.  
  • Ability to understand relationships between complex information systems and document data flows and applicable security controls.
  • Basic understanding of networks, systems, and cloud computing environments.
  • Previous experience conducting data privacy investigations.
